Harry Potter is fictional character created by J.K. Rowling as part of her popular Harry Potter series of novels.

The story of his origins is not a happy one. Harry, gifted student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was orphaned on Halloween when Lord Voldemort set his wand against Harry’s parents, leaving him in the reluctant care of his aunt and uncle.

Harry’s mother Lily managed to rescue her son by applying protective ancient magic, though she perished in the incident.

Throughout the stories, Harry’s two companions, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, dutifully assist him with the highs and lows of life. The challenges and obstacles faced range from stereotypically awkward incidents that come with maturity to combating villainous forces.

The books in the Harry Potter series are more than entertaining feats of adventure and imaginative escape. But even as they entertain, they teach such timeless themes as friendship and loss, courage and death, prejudice and love in a way kids can relate.

The books are written as a fantasy based mystery in which the reader learns the secrets of the story at the same time that Harry Potter gains the information.

Rowling wisely hooks her readers by keeping the thoughts and knowledge of the other characters concealed from Harry until the plot unfolds them.

A reluctant reader? While no movie could ever truly do a book justice, the corresponding Harry Potter films have been met the whole world over with equal delight and enthusiasm as some of the greatest box office hits. Fans of the series travel great lengths to attend various lectures and events.

Indeed, it’s quite likely that the Harry Potter books will join the ranks of the best loves books of all time. But the success of the Harry Potter series does not result from children alone. Even as the seventh and final book of the series has been released, Harry Potter continues to stir the hearts of readers of all ages.

Those who have not yet begun to explore the Harry Potter series really ought to, as they are truly marvelous.
