Understanding The Idea Of Premonitions
Do you think you have had a premonition before? How is it that some people know when things are about to happen before it even occurs? Is this just a gut feeling that things are not right or is it paranormal? Scientists have not ever believed in premonitions. They only believe in things that they can prove are facts. They do not believe even though there have been numerous events that have been foretold in a premonition or a feeling prior to it actually occurring.
Do We See the Future?
Ian Stevenson, a biochemist in Canada and a psychiatry professor, has a very prominent example of recordings of premonitions. Two weeks prior to the Titanic devastation he was able to record over nineteen different premonitions from his patients. Each premonition included something like visions of people canceling their trips because they felt that something bad was going to happen and even some dreams that people had of the actual disaster.
The people that have had premonitions have said that they are not a pleasant experience. They get overwhelming feelings of fear or uneasiness in regards to what they believe is going to happen. While they have had a premonition they do not know exactly what will happen, only that it will not be good.
Premonitions occur much more often than most people understand. The subject of the premonition is typically surrounding something or someone that will affect you. The premonitions come about in multiple ways. It is sometimes a dream, sometimes a feeling. It is sometimes called a sixth sense.
Premonitions of murders, death, robberies, plane crashes and accidents are predominantly the type that are felt or ‘seen’. They often happen within hours of the person having the premonition. The emotional aspects of a dream often leave the person with the most disquieting feelings. They are at a loss as how to explain the impending sense of dread they feel.
Then there are dreams that we have no doubt about the meaning. They are clear and the dreamer sees something happening to a family member or someone close. This can be a very upsetting dream and often people will try to block it from their minds. They may succeed for a while until the dream comes true.
Could the premonitions be coming from somewhere out of this world? A premonition is something or a feeling that you see as if it is a dream. It is usually brought forth by a fear of something that you feel is about to happen, even if you do not know what or when. They are related to our senses.
What if the premonitions we have are actually something that is happening on another dimension? The premonitions that occur when we are asleep could be the result of being somewhere other than this dimension for the period of time when we are sleeping. This could tie in with the theory of astral projection.
Is this something that is just too far out to actually occur? Many people over history has had to face ridicule for something that they believed in firmly because, in that moment, it seemed truly impossible. Do you think that people actually believed that a man would take a walk on the moon one day? If, prior to the actual event, it was brought up, surely everyone would have considered the person to be crazy.
How Do You Explain These Premonitions?
Just because something does not fit in with the normal way we think, is it to be dismissed without another thought? There are many instances of premonitions that have been recorded throughout time. Take for instance the premonition of Abraham Lincoln of his own death. He dreamt only ten days before his death that he was with people who were mourning in the East Wing of the White House. He asked a soldier standing nearby who it was that had died and the soldier told him it was the President.
There was a book written in 1898 called Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan. It was written fourteen years prior to the Titanic disaster. A ship called Titan was the subject of the book and it sank into the North Atlantic. It hit an iceberg, had a shortage of lifeboats, was the exact size as the Titanic, and it had three propellers. These are all very similar to the Titanic disaster right down to the name of the boat.
The author of this book was Morgan Robertson. How is it possible that the book told of a story just like the accident that would occur fourteen years later? Whether you refer to it as a vision or a premonition, the similarities between the book and the actual accident are eerily similar. Did the author write this book as a result of a premonition that he had?
It is possible that this question will never be answered. Only at their own pace will the mysteries that are found in the universe and the mind unfold. The things that will be shown to someone cannot be predicted.
