The words “personal injury claim” probably conjures up images of low-budget adverts on the television, usually in the daytime, telling you that you may be able to claim compensation if you have suffered an injury. This be true in a lot of cases, as all the time people are falling over in the street due to poorly maintained pavements or had a car accident where the other driver completely lost concentration and went into your vehicle. These are legitimate reasons to make a claim to the compensation that you are entitled to.

There are some really odd cases that go to personal injury solicitors – sometimes this is because it is hard to work out exactly who is to blame, and on other occasions it is because there is a chance the person injured may be to blame themselves! You can make your own mind up on these following cases.

The teacher who fell over a chip on a floor that was a similar colour, so it blended in is an interesting one. She won that case as it was decided that she wouldn’t have been able to see it and therefore the blame lay with somebody else for the colour of the floor!

A teacher injured himself by breaking his hip as he fell off a toilet. Now this sounds pretty innocuous, but the toilet was a small one of the type used in primary schools (which is where this happened). He successfully sued for compensation in this case.

On the roads there are claims for more than just the usual shunts and bumps. In American a trucker used the cruise control on his vehicle and this led to an accident and a subsequent compensation claim. In between these two events, the man decided that he would leave the vehicle to its own devices while he made a coffee in the back of the cab. He believed that the truck would steer itself around corners, and sued the manufacturers for not telling him this. It isn’t clear whether he won the case, though he probably did not!

There are too many strange cases to list here, but one involved a tooth being found in a bag of peanuts…that wasn’t human! Another was the case of a teenager falling through the roof of a stranger’s house. There was a case bought against the owners of the property because the roof did not have the appropriate fencing for someone climbing onto it. Of course claims like this must be taken seriously, they are definitely pushing the boundaries!

Anyone who has been injured due to the fault of somebody else could be entitled to compensation.
