It seems like one of the first toys every toddler receives is a set of wooden building blocks. I had a set when I was a child and I bet you probably did, too. Remember? There were squares and cubes and rectangles and triangles. And they were bright red, yellow, blue and green? And even if you only had one set you had lots of blocks to create castles and houses or forts. But if you had more than once set you could build a whole town! And they were one of the few toys that my parents let us play with either inside or out because even if you left them beneath the tree or in the middle of the driveway you really could not hurt them.

You may have noticed some of the youngsters in your neighborhood riding on wooden bikes lately. No, we’re not taking a step backwards, we’re actually finally taking a step in the proper direction. These wooden bikes are known as either running bikes or balance bikes and they’re designed to help your kid have an easier transition to a real bike. These wooden bikes are also very durable and light weight making it that much easier for you kid to learn how to balance himself.

I am very lucky with the bicycle Schwinn Midmoor Men’s Hybrid Bike. It looks solid but relatively light. If anybody’s looking for a step up from a basic ride-it-sometimes bike, this one is wonderful. If you will go to ride it sometimes, then why bother?

Wooden toy cars are as popular today as they were decades ago mainly because of their simple, sturdy construction that can take years of abuse and still give many more years of fun. And what child doesn’t like to play with a toy car? They roll around the ground and they can be used to transport rock collections and dolls. And with a little imagination they’ll be anything from a family sedan to a race car or police car.

Wooden toy trucks have been favorite toys for children for decades. We all know why parents like them so well – they’re safe, there aren’t any sharp edges or pieces that may break off and become a choking hazard and they are durable. But with all the remote control toys and electronic toys that talk and play games, why would a kid still prefer a simple wooden truck or car to play with?

Of course your child has fun when he plays with a wooden railway! You can see him smiling and laughing and you hear him making little choo-choo train noises. He’s building the track and then re-building it and rearranging all the pieces once more and he’s got his little conductor’s hat on. So it’s obvious he’s having fun. However did you also grasp that when your child plays with a wooden railway he is learning something? That’s right. That toy that is bringing your child so much joy and happiness is also teaching him several very vital skills.

A lot of parents are asking for information on the best way to clean wooden toys. Kids can be rough with their toys regardless of what material they are made of and it’s always a good idea to periodically clean your child’s toys. Whether they play with them outside or indoors those toys will inevitably get dirty and it is important for you to understand the right way to disinfect and clean wooden toys since wood is a porous material.
