When you buy a staffy bull terrier, there will be a heap of things you need to organize, but staffy puppy training will have to be right at the head of your list. It’s a good idea to concentrate on education during the 1st year since that will stop your puppy coming to any harm. You can also work on those aspects of education that will protect others from your dog. Staffy puppy training can differ from other types of training in later years but there are some rudiments that are the same for most breeds.

Staffy training is important during the dog’s puppyhood because this is the phase when habits are formed. Young children are comparatively straight forward to educate as they don’t yet have fixed behaviours, and the same holds true for pups, who will relish training more when they are youthful.

One of the most important things to teach is to get your pet to go to the toilet outside. This can be done in one of two ways. One of these approaches is to educate your dog to go to the bathroom after a meal, say, or just before the family goes to bed. Bear in mind though, that your dog may want to do its business at other times, if for example it is ill. At these times you need to discern whenever your dog is trying to tell you that it wants to go to the toilet.

Teaching your animal to tell you when it needs to go is easier than you would think, as long as you do it early on. Whenever you let your pet outside, ask it if it needs to go. Your dog will start to link your chosen phrase with going to the toilet, and will soon respond instantly when you ask if it wants to go. The converse also applies; a lack of response means it doesn’t want to go to the toilet.

Taking a puppy for a walk is great sport for you both, but can be unsafe in the absence of any training. Depending on where you live and take your puppy for walks, you could need to cross busy roads and you could be around a lot of other people or animals. Because of this, it is very valuable to teach your pet to sit and stay or even to return to you during staffy puppy training. This can take some time and is considered one of the hardest. Some owners never accomplish it.

Since dogs are extremely fond of exploring you will want to start very gradually if you are letting them run about in a parkland, for instance. You can teach your dog to sit whilst around the house and then teach it to do the same around the garden. You will need to allow it to explore while on the lead when at the park but you could work your way up to allowing it off the lead. In time you can even teach your dog to dispense with their lead entirely, and walk gently along beside you.

Make sure you deal fairly promptly with your dog’s habit to struggle on the leash when they are close to people and animals, because this is a very helpful and significant part of staffy puppy training. If your puppy spent a fair bit of time with its brothers and sisters it will already be socialised to some degree. One way to see any changes in your dog’s socialising skills is to see how it responds when you have visitors during the first year of its’ life. You will find that the dog either jumps up or merely walks over and waits for a pat on the head. The quiet conduct is what you are aiming for.

The ideas you have just read form the basics of staffy puppy training and there will be more aspects to come later on, but they make an excellent beginning point.
