There are times when the nervous system can become overloaded for no apparent reason, and free floating anxiety combined with panic attacks are experienced. When this happens, the battle against the constitution’s inbuilt fight or flight mechanism begins. Understanding and controlling panic attacks will then have to be mastered.

The nervous system can go into over drive for a number of reasons. There can be physical causes which bring on the over-production of adrenaline. When this is happening, sometimes over work, poor diet and inadequate sleep can all be factors. The adrenal glands start to malfunction and normal controlled adrenaline release is compromised.

Dealing with the body’s response to a perceived treat will always be the best place to begin. Mastering the release of adrenaline so that you can actually control how much is permitted into the blood stream is of prime importance. This begins by dealing with an excess of fear response first. Panic attacks are actually gifts in a way, as if you learn to deal with them, you can conquer any fear and move on with a life in which you are able to take risks and deal with their consequences.

If you can learn to understand that this is just the body’s way of helping you cope with a particular situation that is not as threatening as the body would have you believe, then you are well on your way to being able to manage.

Those which are of the body are symptoms of adrenaline production. Feeling them fully is the only way to get rid of them. They cannot be blocked out, run away from or dulled for very long. Many experts say that it is important to face the fact that the physical feelings may be unpleasant but they do subside and learning to get to the stage where fear ends is an important part of healing. It reduces the physical effects and prevents multiple attacks from coming on.

Learning breathing techniques along with supportive self talk is one way through this difficult experience. Actually asking the panic to become worse is a technique that some people use, to show themselves that they can cope with whatever their body may throw at them. Remaining in charge and in control of the situation even if you have to pretend to do this at the start is often the first step on the road to recovery and taking your life back. When this has been mastered, environmental considerations may be taken into account. There may be certain triggers which the suffers needs to become aware of. In this way preparation for any attack can begin.

Dealing with fear of this nature means that the physical sensations need to be accepted. At this crucial point of management, deep breathing and thought control can have remarkable results. Continuing to tell yourself that you can manage through these unpleasant sensations however dangerous the threat in front of you may seem is the way forward. Believing that you will cope with whatever may happen will eventually settle the nervous system down long enough for the body to stabilize. With practice the mind will soon once again be able to take charge in controlling panic attacks.
