“I got a pocket full of quarters, and I’m going to the arcade games,” sang Buckner & Garcia in the 1980s track “Pac-Man Fever.” These days, machines are still gobbling up quarters – occasionally four or even more at a time – quicker than Pac-Man can eat those pac-dots. Those quarters can also add up quickly, and we often do not realize just how much we have been in fact feeding into machines. How can you balance a desire to let your children have a good time on a ride or game now with the desire to save for their foreseeable future? How you avoid spending an hour or so each week working to cover your snacks from the company’s break room?

First of all, bear in mind just how much you’re spending. From time to time treating your kids to the coin operated ride at the local mall or purchasing yourself a treat from a junk food machine won’t hurt you wallet, but if you let your kid to ride every ride every time you pass it or you buy three drinks from the work snack machine each day, you’re probably wasting more than you realize. Bring only enough change (or dollar bills) to make thought out buys, and steer clear of the change-making devices.

Steer clear of bubble-gum machines that dispense toys. The toys are inevitably unsatisfactory, and you may be tempted to continue to feed quarters into the machine till your son or daughter gets the one she’d like. More often than not, these toys are usually discarded fairly quickly.

Save the quarters for trips to a family enjoyable arcade. Search for deals prior to going, and also use them. Visit once the arcade games center is not busy to maximize entertainment for kids. You may enjoy an hour of family entertainment for a few dollars, and you will actually get some bubble-gum machine toys as part of the package.

Take into account alternate options. When you are a real enthusiast of a specific game (or arcade games generally), you could actually pay out much less if you purchase yourself a game for home – whether or not it’s a geniune arcade game or a gaming system with several arcade games is up to you. With your personal arcade game, you can always have the high score! The same idea relates to food vending machines. When you are on a regular basis shelling out a lot on food or beverages from vending machines, purchase yourself a supply of treats or soda pops to take along to work or school. Those individual snack bags are less expensive at the grocery store or wholesale club, and a big bag is even cheaper yet.

Quarters accumulate -the arcade game industry makes $8.1 billion in profits, based on the internet site of BMI Video gaming, a company that sells coin-operated machines. The next time you’re tempted to spend a pocket full of quarters on anything, take some time to stop and think first. That arcade game or vending machine could give you a quarter’s worth of amusement, but you might be better saving those quarters for something you will enjoy considerably more.
