Corrugated polyethylene is the most commonly used drain pipe. It is made up of flexible plastic. This does not mean that it is not durable. Still, it is very durable. One more advantage to corrugated polythylene is that you can easily bend it into any shape you want to.

Another popular drainage pipe that has may uses is PVC drainage pipe. This pipe is used where there is a requirement of heavy duty pipes. It can withstand a lot of pressure and is very strong. Also, it is easily available in many different sizes.

It is really easy to work with and install PVC pipes. There is no need for welding or soldering, as the joints can simply be glued together with the PVC joint glue. The only downside to PVC pipe is that it is not flexible.

Cast-iron pipes: they have been used for many years because they are tough and long lasting. Cast- iron pipes are generally used in situations where large pipes are required, such as in municipal drainage applications.

These pipes take run off water to the waste water plant for the purpose of recycling. They run under streets and roadways. The reason that municipalities used it is that it remains in good condition for over 100 years without much maintenance.

Copper pipes: copper pipes were the staple for residential water and drainage lines for many years. Copper was used extensively in the past because it would not rust and was very inexpensive. But now the times have changed. Copper lines are no longer in wide usage due to the fact that copper is now quite expensive.

It has another disadvantage to its kitty too. If used in cold climates, it needs to be well insulated otherwise they freeze and thus burst. Copper pipes have been replaced by plastic and PVC pipes. They do not burst if they freeze. They are not as expensive and are easier to work with.
